Founder + Owner, Team Iowa
Joe Nelson, PT, DPT, CMPT, is the founder and owner of Team Iowa Physical Therapy. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa Doctor of Physical Therapy program, where he is currently an adjunct faculty member. Joe has extensive training and experience treating back pain, neck pain, tendinitis, muscle strains, overuse injuries, chronic pain, and sports injuries. Joe is a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (1.5 year training after DPT degree) and has also completed certifications as a Functional Movement Specialist, ASTYM Soft Tissue Injury Specialist, and Golf Fitness Specialist. Joe enjoys working with local organizations and sports teams in the Iowa City area. In his free time, Joe loves to keep active by going mountain biking, hiking, visiting Colorado and spending time with his wife Annalise and their three children Eliana, Ann-Marie, and Simon.
Physical Therapist Assistant
Will Bruno, PTA, graduated from George Mason University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He moved to Iowa City in 2014 from his hometown of McLean, Virginia. Shortly after the move, he had a change of heart in his career path and transitioned into the physical therapy world. Will graduated in May 2017 from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Kirkwood Community College. In his free time, Will enjoys watching the Washington Capitals and Redskins, exploring new breweries and staying active.
Kim graduated from the University of Iowa Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2017. She is originally from Ames, Iowa and completed her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University in 2015 with a major in Kinesiology. Kim is certified in integrative dry needling and has also taken continuing education courses with a focus in women’s health and in pre/post-partum. She additionally works an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa teaching case based learning classes. In her free time, Kim enjoys teaching barre classes, traveling with her husband Kyle, and cheering on the Cyclones and Hawkeyes.
Matt Hrvol, PT, DPT, CSCS, C-PS, m|WODs worked as an orthopedic and sports physical therapist in Chicago from 2017- March 2019. Born and raised in Iowa, Matt attended the University of Iowa for both his undergraduate degree and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Matt is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Champion Certified Performance Specialist and is certified through MobilityWOD’s Mobility and Movement specialty program. Matt has completed specialty certifications in Instrumented Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, Myofascial Cupping/Taping, and has served as a primary specialist and instructor for Blood Flow Restriction Training in Chicago. In his free time, Matt likes to stay active running, weightlifting, exploring new dining options or breweries. He also enjoys watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
Jayne Nelson is a certified Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR) with experience in leadership, customer service and human resources. Jayne grew up in Mason City, IA and attended Newman Catholic High School. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and began a six-year career with Target Corporation as an Assistant Store Manager and Human Resources Manager. In 2016, Jayne moved to Iowa City, IA to live closer to her family and joined the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a Human Resources Generalist. In her free time, Jayne enjoys going to yoga classes, playing with her nieces and nephew and meeting up with friends at local coffee shops and restaurants.
