JOE NELSON
Founder + Owner, Team Iowa

Joe has been treating in the Iowa City area for the past ten years and founded Team Iowa in March, 2017. He graduated from the University of Iowa Doctor of Physical Therapy program where he is currently an adjunct faculty member. Joe is a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (1.5 year training after DPT degree) and has also completed certifications as a Functional Movement Specialist, ASTYM Soft Tissue Injury Specialist, and Golf Fitness Specialist. Joe loves spending time with his wife Annalise and their three children Eliana, Ann-Marie and Simon. In his free time, he enjoys playing ukulele, biking, and playing music and sports with his children.

WILLIAM BRUNO
Physical Therapist Assistant

Will moved to Iowa City in 2014 from his hometown McLean, Virginia. He graduated from George Mason University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. After moving to Iowa City, he had a change of heart in his career path and transitioned into the physical therapy world. Will graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 2017 with his PTA degree. In his free time, Will enjoys biking around Iowa, the occasional hike, kayak or SUP ride, exploring what breweries are around, and traveling back to the East Coast to visit family. 

KIM RICHARDS
Physical Therapist

Kim graduated from the University of Iowa Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2017. She is originally from Ames, Iowa and completed her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University in 2015 with a major in Kinesiology. Kim is certified in integrative dry needling and has also taken continuing education courses with a focus in women’s health and in pre/post-partum. She additionally works as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa teaching case based learning classes. In her free time, Kim enjoys teaching barre classes, traveling with her husband Kyle, and cheering on the Cyclones and Hawkeyes.

MATT HRVOL
Physical Therapist 

Matt Hrvol, PT, DPT, CSCS, CPS moved back to Iowa City after spending the past few years working as an orthopedic and sports physical therapist in Chicago. Born and raised in Iowa, Matt attended the University of Iowa for both his undergraduate degree and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Matt is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Champion Performance Specialist and Integrative Dry Needling Specialist. He also holds certifications in MobilityWOD’s Mobility and Movement program and has taken extensive coursework for Rocktape Myofascial Taping, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, and Myofascial Cupping. Matt also worked as a lead instructor for Blood Flow Restriction Training in Chicago. Matt enjoys weightlifting, world-traveling, and craft beers.

EMILY DUNN
Physical Therapist 

Emily Dunn, PT, DPT graduated from the University of Iowa Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in 2019. She is currently pursuing a variety of continuing education courses to provide excellent care and assist her patients in meeting their goals. Emily is originally from New London, Wisconsin and completed her undergraduate degree at St. Norbert College (Green Bay) in 2016. Being from Wisconsin, she loves to cheer for the Green Bay Packers! Emily also enjoys spending her time outdoors golfing, skiing, and hiking with her husband, Kyle and their golden retriever, Murphy.

PAOLO MARILIM
Physical Therapist 

Paolo Marilim PT, DPT is originally from Clinton, Iowa. He completed his undergraduate degree in Health and Human Physiology from the University of Iowa, and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Paolo was drawn to Team Iowa for its family feel, and he enjoys the opportunity this unique clinic provides in helping people get back to the activities they love. In his free time, Paolo likes golfing, playing tennis, and spending time with his family and friends.

JAYNE NELSON
Business Manager

Jayne Nelson is a certified Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR) with experience in leadership, customer service and human resources. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2010 and began a six-year career with Target Corporation as an Assistant Store Manager and Human Resources Manager. In 2016, Jayne moved to Iowa City, IA to live closer to her family and joined the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a Human Resources Generalist. Jayne joined Team Iowa Physical Therapy in November of 2019, and yes, she is Joe’s sister! In January of 2021 Jayne adopted a puppy, Jordan, from a patient who was fostering him. In her free time, Jayne enjoys going to yoga classes, playing with her nieces and nephew and meeting up with friends at local coffee shops and restaurants.

MEAGAN SMITH
Office Manager

Meagan graduated from The University of Iowa with a BA in Exercise Science in May 2020. She grew up in Kansas City, MO and moved to the Iowa City area in 2016 for school. After graduating, she married her husband Jarod. Meagan and Jarod recently bought their first house, moving them out to North Liberty where they have been exploring new restaurants and hiking/biking trails. In her free time Meagan enjoys golfing and running, hosting friends and family for board game and movie nights, and cooking.
